A Fitting Reward for Fools

Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.  Proverbs 19:29 (King James Version)

One of the things to be gained during the Lenten season is wisdom: the know-how to live a life of Godly integrity and allowing the Divine to show forth.  Prayer, study, meditation, fasting, and other disciplines during this season could be instrumental to that end.  However, when I see what’s happening in current American politics, I see the polar opposite.

As of this writing, Presidential Candidate Donald J. Trump is the front-runner on the Republican side of the campaign fence; ahead of Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.  It amazes me that a candidate who has shown us the underbelly of American culture and meanness-racism; xenophobia; misogyny; and abuse of wealth power to name a few-can be so popular among American voters.  Trump has also been endorsed by former Klu Klux Klan leader, David Duke; and by NJ Governor Chris Christie.

I see rampant foolishness in all of this.  I see the pent-up fear and hatred in Trump voters being expressed in full color at Trump rallies; whilst Mr. Trump feeds on those emotions and stokes them.  I see Americans acting like fools over this man, who himself is a fool.  And despite Mr. Trump’s bankruptcies, failed business endeavors, and reality TV show persona, folks will gladly let him run the US of A if elected. What makes this more foolish, is that a lot of these voters profess to be “Christian”; and Mr. Trump says he’s “Christian” himself!

If Trump does get elected President, these people who vote him in will get a fitting reward: a stab in the back.  Oh, don’t think that a billionaire who doesn’t give a flying fuck about most of us is going to suddenly become BFFs with most of his voting bloc: poor and working-class Americans.  No, Mr. Trump will care only for his crowd: the rich; mostly White elites.  These voters will watch their unemployed youth become cannon fodder for some trumped up war (no pun intended).  They’ll see increased corporate power as America turns into a oligarchy, resulting in scaled back minimum wage, destroyed unions, and outsourced jobs.  Police brutality-a bane to Blacks-will visit White communities as well.  These voters will be left out in the cold for sure.

They’ll be fools getting a fool’s reward.

As members of the Boardinghouse of Faith, we need to look within ourselves to tap into our G0d-given wisdom.  We need to be lights during the Lenten season while many of our fellows are basking in the darkness.  We need to “watch and pray” as Jesus warned us so we don’t fall into the temptation of helplessness or apathy (ref. Matthew 26:41).  We need to call these “Christians” to account and remind them that their emotions do not line up with what Jesus called us to be.  That leadership-crude and mean-will not “Make America Great”, but will destroy America in the end.  We have to exemplify Jesus in word and deed…

Or we deserve a fitting reward for being fools.

Prayer: Father/Mother God, remind us that ugliness and meanness are not characteristics of Your Christ; but they go against every thing He stood for.  Empower us to be lights during this dark time, and show or fellows that love, tolerance and compassion are not weaknesses.  Be our Wisdom as we stand in the midst of fools.  Be our courage when we have to call “Christians” to account, reminding them of your Realm here on Earth.  In Your Name, Amen.

About dangerouschristian

My name is Victor Reynolds. I'm a Christian who desires a more mystical approach to my spiritual life. I'm also a photographer as well who loves to create. I call myself "dangerous" because anyone-especially a Christian-who dares to be beyond the "norm" and allows to let the Christ live in them is dangerous.
