Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14
In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:4-5 (Both verses from the King James Version)
Despite all the commercialism and sappy sentimentalism surrounding Christmas, I still find reason to celebrate and have hope. Despite climate change, economic hardships, political pranks and military posturing, I still have hope.
My hope is that the Divine Light-the same Light that shone in Jesus the Christ-will shine through us all. That Light which shone in the night of humanity those ages ago-the Light of life itself-will shine on our weary world. That the Divine will shine in us and we follow the Christ whose birthday this time commemorates-not be creed or religious babble-but by doing the “greater” works he assured us we can do if we but trust the Divine.
That the Light in us and on the world will shine so bright that the darkness we encounter will be scattered for good. That we too can say, “Glory to God in the highest” with peace on Earth and goodwill to all regardless of race, gender, sexuality, economics or religious belief.
That is my hope for Christmas 2013, and beyond.
A blessed Christmas to you beloved reader, and Peace on Earth.
