Betting the House?

Therefore the Lord said: “Inasmuch as this people draw near Me with their mouth and with their lips do honor Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the precept of men, therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder; for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.”  Isaiah 29:13-14 (21st Century King James Version)

Today, American Christianity’s betting the house by being on the wrong side of history and eternity.  It claims to be walking with Jesus, when in reality it’s running with the Devil.

Since the arrival of the early “Christian” settlers in the 17th Century with the displacement and genocide of the First Nations; and the Slave Trade that destroyed millions of Africans, American Christianity has been constantly winding up on wrong side.  American Christianity wholeheartedly endorsed slavery in the South; using Scripture as defense and to attack those brave Christians that preached abolition.  It later spread westward across the American continent, stealing land from more First Nations while inflicting racial and religious genocide upon them.  To many American Christians, “Manifest Destiny” was not just a slogan, but “God’s will to Christianize” the land.

American Christianity sailed on ships with missionaries, preaching a White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant religion that demonized rich indigenous cultures in the Southern Hemisphere that existed long before Christ.  It later wrapped itself in white hoods in the South and Midwest, putting the “fear of God” into newly-freed Blacks, Catholics and Jews.  It also began its long journey into turning the United States from a democracy into a theocracy.

American Christianity fought overseas, proclaiming that God was on “our side”.  It endorsed the interment of Japanese-Americans in World War II.  It said it was “God’s will” when the US dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  American Christianity was a special part of the “American Way” during the Cold War and its adherents gladly endorsed American nuclear superiority in the arms race.

American Christianity stood to the side while Blacks and other (true) Christians stood up for Civil Rights; even denouncing Martin Luther King, Jr-a Christian pastor-for speaking truth to power.  It demonized the anti-war movement and the counterculture movement, while cheering on the lost cause known as the Vietnam War.  In later years, it would go on to denounce Women’s rights and Gay rights.

American Christianity has bet against science-especially Evolution-despite the overwhelming evidence supporting Evolution.  American Christianity has bet against climate science-criticizing the evidence of man’s altering the climate; even going as far as saying “God won’t let man ruin the environment”.

American Christianity has bet on the side of the rich and powerful.  It has become the bedfellow for rapacious corporations, Government intrusion into the rights and freedom of Americans, sequestering Government programs that would benefit the poor, women and children.  It has cheered our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, turning them into religious crusades against Islam; instead of preaching against such wars.  Even worse, American Christians of color have now hopped on this bandwagon with its televangelists that have lost touch with the masses; and instead preached a “health and wealth” gospel.  And today, American Christianity’s trying to influence such to finally turn America into its dream-a theocracy.

American Christianity has indeed bet the house in favor of all that Christianity stood against.  It has bet the house on the worldly and ungodly, while using it to hijack Christianity and assimilate it like Star Trek’s Borg.

And now American Christianity’s about to lose, and lose big.  You see, in the Scripture above, God has watched how people been “worshiping” God externally as we see here in American churches.  However these peoples’ hearts were light years away from the heart of the Divine; they were doing their own thing.  Sound like here in America where we see American Christianity give God good lip service, yet is betting on the wrong side by its behavior.   And as God warned Isaiah, He/She’s about to do something big-something that looks like it’s going to blow the doors off of American Christianity.

What will God do?  I don’t know, however I see the signs already in this nation.  Atheism is steadily on the rise among the young and people of color-populations American Christianity needs.  Many brave Christians taking the very Bible used as a weapon by American Christianity, and disarming it through Higher Criticism.  How the idea that America’s a “Christian Nation” is being disproved by the very history it believed in.  How the very religions American Christianity preached against-Islam and Paganism-are growing in popularity.  How science is disproving Bible myths and despite its money and “clout”, American Christianity can’t do squat.

And in the end, when American Christians who’ve endorsed this warped theology stand before the Divine, what will they say?  What explanations will they give God?  One only knows what eternal repercussions this will have.

Don’t follow the bandwagon of American Christianity.  Instead, follow Jesus’ teachings and focus on the Divine.  It’s a surer bet.  And you might just keep the house!

Peace!

About dangerouschristian

My name is Victor Reynolds. I'm a Christian who desires a more mystical approach to my spiritual life. I'm also a photographer as well who loves to create. I call myself "dangerous" because anyone-especially a Christian-who dares to be beyond the "norm" and allows to let the Christ live in them is dangerous.
