Now I would remind you, brothers,of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.
I Corinthians 15:1-5 (English Standard Version)
I hope you all had a blessed Easter/Resurrection Day. Mine was good-had a blessed service-with Easter breakfast. My son, Carrington participated in the Sunday School Easter program. We later had Easter dinner over our cousin’s house and chilled out for a spell.
Easter’s a triumphant day for the Church: Christ arose-‘Nuff Said! He lives and forevermore-again, ‘Nuff Said! Okay…Jesus rose from the grave and lives today…who really cares?
Huh? What you say, O Dangerous One? You heard correct, who really cares?
Who cares that Jesus rose from the grave and lives, when we his followers don’t act like it. God blessed our race with a prophet so infused with Him/Her, that he exhibited God on Earth. Jesus loved, healed, forgave, fed, engaged the marginalized, lived and ministered outside the normal human realm in fully Divine fashion. Jesus also cried out for justice (what God called out for in the Old Testament.). It was this that got Jesus in trouble with the powers that be, and ultimately crucified. However, the story didn’t end there. Three days later, Jesus rose from the dead.
In Jesus’s resurrection we see God pulling the ultimate show-stopper for all time. God, through Jesus’s resurrection, gave the ultimate “F-U” to sin, death, power, and religious abuses for all eternity. God did something through Jesus’s resurrection that should get every Christian up and at ’em. We too should be infused with that life that flowed in Christ since we’re supposed to be fellow heirs with Christ (ref. Romans 8:17). Like Jesus, we too should be out there bringing life into dead situations.
However….it ain’t necessarily so, per “Porgy and Bess”. We act like Jesus is still dead-more like some passe historical figure. Christians today are the deadest folk on Earth. We’re hateful and intolerant towards those not like “us”. We’ve created religious apartheid with a country-club attitude on who’s worthy of the Kingdom of God; consigning “others” to Hell. If it had been up to some of us “Christians”, we’d still be in the Dark Ages today we’re so anti-science and pro-superstition. Our divorce rate is the same as the rest of society. Some of the biggest nut-jobs making the news-and in history-profess Christianity. We use the Bible and “God” to endorse every ugliness we could do….
And we wonder why many say, “So what?” to the Resurrection story….
Maybe we too are saying, “So what?” with our own lives ourselves, and the greater society had taken notice.
